About the Project

VET instructors lack the time, expertise, and understanding necessary to incorporate entrepreneurship into their curricula since it is frequently viewed as course-specific and more pertinent to industries where self-employment makes more sense. Therefore, in addition to having a solid lesson plan and subject-matter expertise, VET teachers must comprehend why entrepreneurial skills would benefit their students.

On the other hand, VET students need to develop a strong understanding of entrepreneurship and the skills necessary to make them stand out to future employers. Given the above, the AthletiLearn project, has as a main priority to increase the flexibility of opportunities in vocational education and training and incorporate entrepreneurial competences into athletic activities. In this way, AthletiLearn effectively bridges the gap between business and sports, advancing VET into a realm of holistic skill development and guaranteeing that educators and students are equipped to succeed in a global market that is becoming more and more competitive.

Background

VET centres lack specialized programmes addressing how entrepreneurship is incorporated into the curriculum. In fact, most educators lack the time, pedagogical expertise, and entrepreneurial understanding necessary to develop a lesson plan that incorporates new subjects into their existing curriculum. Recent research by the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop) has pointed out that there is not much training available for educators to learn about entrepreneurship. Additionally, education through sports activities lacks marketing abilities, resource skills, or fundamental understanding of accounting, finance, and technology.

As a result, the AthletiLearn project, will address the underlying issues by developing a teacher guide, a course that teaches through athletics, and a curriculum on entrepreneurial skills. In this context, sports offer multiple advantages beyond its well-known physical benefits. For example, it enhances athletes’ capacity for learning and has been acknowledged as a means of encouraging young people to learn about entrepreneurship. The project’s focus on using sport-based learning activities to enhance entrepreneurial abilities will provide students with crucial skills that they can utilize in the future. At the same time, teachers will have the opportunity to enforce a unique method of within their existing curriculum and pass on vital knowledge to students while keeping them active.
